Both lubes work well. The difference is really about how you plan to use them! Water-based is lighter, plays nicely with toys and condoms, and is easy to clean up - it's where most people start, and where plenty happily stay. Silicone lasts longer, stays slippery in water, and needs less topping up - but it won't work with silicone toys, so that matters if you have them. If you're genuinely unsure, water-based is the lower-risk starting point. If you want something that goes the distance, silicone is worth it.
